Biography of John Telich
John Telich is an American journalist who currently works as a weekday sports anchor for Fox 8 and produces a variety of features, as well as serving as a veteran correspondent on many major events. In addition, he handles difficult physical tasks such as flying with the Navy Blue Angles.
Prior to joining his current station as a sports anchor in September 1980, he was assistant sports director for WIVB-TV in Buffalo, New York. A graduate of Euclid High and Ashland College, John began his career in Ashland, Ohio, in 1972.
A winner of 11 Emmy Awards, he has won multiple awards for his coverage of Cleveland sports, both professional and high school. His works have been honored by UPI, AP and The Press Club of Cleveland. In 2007, he was inducted into the Hall of Fame by the Cleveland Association of Broadcasters. After that, he won the Cleveland Press Club’s Chuck Heaton Award.
Born in Euclides, John has completed more than 100 triathlons in the last 27 years, including three Ironman Distance events. In 2012, he completed the Burning River 100 Mile Ultra Marathon in just over 29 hours.
