Joshua Johnson Biography
Joshua Johnson is an American journalist and former host of 1A, one of America’s Top Daily Talks produced by WAMU in Washington, DC and distributed by NPR. In 2019, Joshua joined MSNBC as the host of The Week with Joshua Johnson.
Johnson gained an interest in journalism at an early age, inspired by African-American journalists such as Ed Bradley, Bernard Shaw, and Dwight Lauderdale.
He then joined the University of Miami to fulfill his dreams. Joshua began his public radio career working for a collaborative project between WLRN and the Miami Herald from 2004 to 2010. In 2010, Johnson moved to San Francisco to work for an NPR affiliate to serve as a morning to early morning presenter. 2016. after spending six years as an anchor and reporter in her native South Florida.
At KQED, Joshua helped launch the WLRN Miami Herald News, an innovative partnership between WLRN Public Radio and The Miami Herald. He served as an afternoon anchor and general mission reporter, with an emphasis on politics, science, and government stories. Additionally, Johnson has worked as a frequent contributor to newscasts for NPR, CBS Radio News, “Marketplace” for American Public Media and “The Takeaway” for PRI.

Before getting his public radio job, Joshua served as a weekend editor for WPEC-TV in West Palm Beach and for WTVJ-TV in Miami. In addition, he worked as a pledge presenter and grant writer for WPBT-TV in Miami, developing a personal finance initiative for young adults for the “Nightly Business Report”. Joshua also taught podcasting at the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism.
In September 2016, Johnson hosted The Diane Rehm Show for two days, and in November, Rehm announced that Joshua would take over his schedule. Johnson is an active member of the National Association of Black Journalists.
