Kelly Wright Biography

Kelly Wright is an American journalist who currently works as a reporter for the Black News Channel. Previously, he was a general assignment reporter for Fox News Channel (FNC), based in the Washington, D.C. bureau. He also worked as co-host of “America’s News Headquarters” on Saturdays from 1 to 2 p.m. Additionally, Wright is also a driven and inspiring person based on real-life individuals who triumphed against all odds.

Wright was born and raised in the United States. He attended Oral Roberts University, where he graduated in 2008. Kelly began his journalism career in 1977 while serving in the United States Army. He also served as a weekend anchor and reporter for WRAL-TV (CBS) in Raleigh, New York. Additionally, he worked as a general assignment reporter for WWOR-TV in New York. While there, he reported on several high-profile journalists and events for the station, including John Gotti, the Howard Beach and Bensonhurst murder trials, and the 1989 Central Park jogger rape case.

Before joining Fox News Channel, Wright worked as an anchor and reporter at WAVY-TV/WVBT-TV in Norfolk from 1998 to 2003. During that time, he was able to cover extensive stories, including a historic event in Benin, West Africa, Jerry Rawlings , from Ghana, and representatives from the United States, England and France. In October 2003, he reported live from the Congressional Black Caucus and FNC Democratic presidential candidate’s debate in Detroit.

Additionally, Wright has received numerous awards for his reporting, including two local Emmy Awards for developing, reporting and co-producing a documentary and news series about the transatlantic slave trade. Kelly was one of the first reporters to cover Abu Ghraib prison and also spent time with British and American troops. Likewise, he also provided coverage on US forces training Iraqi security forces. In 2005, he reported from Tampa, Florida, on Terri Schiavo’s right-to-die case. Throughout her career, Kelly has reported on international stories from Africa, Iraq, Europe, the Middle East and the United States.

Despite this, he is an ordained minister and gospel recording artist. He encourages people through his passionate preaching of good news in a world of bad news. Additionally, Kelly is also a singer who has performed on shows like Cissy Houston, Jonathan Butler, the late James Brown, and more.
