Kirk Franklin biography
Kirk Franklin is a famous American choir director, songwriter, and gospel singer, best known for his urban contemporary gospel choir songs. Some of his great projects are, Property of God, One Nation Crew, among many others.
Furthermore, Kirk has won several awards including 15 Grammy Awards. Franklin is often titled the “ruling king of the Urban Gospel”. Born in Fort Worth, Texas, Franklin was raised by his aunt, Gertrude, after his mother abandoned him as a baby. She recycled aluminum cans to put food on the table and also earned little money for Kirk to take piano lessons from the age of four.
At age 7, Franklin received his first recording contract, a chance his aunt turned down. He then joined the church choir and became music director for the Mt. Rose Baptist at the tender age of eleven.

However, he rebelled during his teens despite his spiritual upbringing. In an effort to keep him out of trouble, his grandmother arranged an audition for him at a professional youth conservatory associated with a local university. Kirk was accepted, but had to deal with a girlfriend’s pregnancy later on, leading to his expulsion from school for bad behavior.
It is also evident that Kirk studied music with Jewell Kelly and the Singing Chaparrals at Oscar Dean Wyatt High School. Due to his self-control and passion, Frank ended up becoming the choir’s pianist.
At age 15, Kirk returned to the church where he led the church choir. He also established a gospel group, The Humble Hearts, a group that recorded one of Franklin’s compositions. This caught the attention of many in the gospel industry, including gospel music legend Milton Bigham, the music director of the Georgia Mass Choir.
