Leigh Ann Caldwell is an American journalist who currently works as a political reporter and correspondent for NBC News Capitol Hill covering the United States Congress.
Born and raised in Las Vegas, Ann was a talented swimmer during her high school days and attended North Carolina State University on a four-year scholarship for distance swimming. Ann majored in Communication and Political Science, graduating in 2000.
She later moved to New York after graduating and became a freelance journalist. From 2004 to 2012, she launched Radio Rootz, a youth education initiative. Ann has worked for Free Speech Radio News, C-SPAN, Radio France Internationale, CBS News and CNN.
Most notably, she joined NBC News in 2014 and has been a Capitol Hill correspondent since 2019. During the 2008 United States presidential election, she hosted a daily syndicated election show, Election Unspun. Additionally, she won an investigative journalism award from the Independent Press Association for her coverage of rebuilding New York City after the 9/11 attacks.
