Matt Howerton is an American journalist who currently works as a general reporter for WFAA News, the ABC affiliate. Furthermore, he comes to ABC from KOAT in Albuquerque where he also served as a reporter.
Prior to joining KOAT, he worked in Waco, TX, where he was an award-winning and Emmy-nominated reporter on KWTX-TV. He was the first to cover the tragic West, TX fertilizer plant explosion that claimed the lives of 15 people and covered the story for weeks as the community struggled to recover. Furthermore, he interned at WABC-TV in New York in 2012. He was also an associate producer for an investigative team that returned thousands of dollars in refunds to consumers.
Matt’s reporting on the Texas Department of Criminal Justice recently earned him an Emmy nomination after highlighting the inmates who make thousands of Braille pages for blind students in Texas every year. His work on a horrific bus accident in 2013 earned him the top spot for Spot News by the Texas Associated Press.
