Matt O’Donnell Biography
Matt O’Donnell is an American journalist who currently works at WPVI-TV as the anchor of Action News Morning, host and producer of the True Philadelphia Podcast, as well as co-host of the Sunday political podcast Inside Story. Prior to joining WPVI-TV, Matt served as a reporter on WSTM TV for one year and six months. In December 1996, Matt was hired as a general reporter for Action News, fulfilling a childhood dream of working for the station he grew up watching.

Matt began his career as a do-it-yourself reporter at WICZ-TV in Binghamton just days after graduating from the University of Delaware, covering local news and politics, including the 1994 New York governorship election, where he interviewed the eventual winner. George Pataki twice.
His next stop was WSTM-TV in Syracuse, New York, where he tracked down a murder suspect for an exclusive interview, visited a community that received over 300 inches of snow in a single season, and provided daily coverage of a horrific string of deaths. . which would later become the basis for the cable series “Village of the Damned”.
Matt got his big break when he was called back to Philadelphia to join the Action News team, where he has worked with pride ever since.

Shortly after 9/11, he joined the Air Force National Guard on a trip to England. Over Atlantic City, he flew supersonic alongside a member of the Blue Angels. He spent four days in the Brazilian rainforest with experts from the Philadelphia Zoo to help protect the golden lion tamarin.
When his presidential campaigns brought Barack Obama, John McCain, Sarah Palin, Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump to the region, he interviewed them. He spent two days on the Jersey Shore, waiting for Hurricane Irene, which was on track to become the first hurricane to hit New Jersey in over a century.
During his tours of the city, Matt met Kevin Bacon, Morgan Freeman, Naomi Judd, and James Brown. He was with the Eagles during the playoffs and was on both the Eagles and Phillies’ title charts. Over the years, he has visited virtually every community in the region, chronicling the successes, tragedies, highs and lows of Action News viewers.
