Ncuti Gatwa is a Rwandan-Scottish actor famous for his role as Eric Effiong in the Netflix comedy-drama series Sex Education (2019-present). This role earned him a BAFTA Scotland Award for Best Actor on Television and three BAFTA Television Award nominations for Best Male Comedy Performance.
Recently, in May 2022, he was announced to play what will be the fifteenth incarnation of the Doctor on Doctor Who, making him the first black actor to lead the series. Born in Nyarugenge, Kigali, Rwanda, his family escaped Rwanda during the Rwandan genocide in 1994, settling in Scotland. He ended up attending Defnfermline High School.
