Nicole Sommavilla biography
Nicole Sommavilla is an American journalist who currently works for NewsChannel 9 in Syracuse, New York as a morning anchor. You can find her Monday through Friday mornings from 4:30am to 7am. In October 2018, Sommavilla joined the NewsChannel 9 team.
Nicole obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Radio-Television with a specialization in Integrated Marketing Communication from Ithaca College in May 2016. Nicole worked as a freelance reporter for News 12 Westchester and as an anchor and night reporter for WSNN, The Suncoast News Network in Sarasota, Florida before joining the NewsChannel 9 team.
She was the lead medical reporter for WSNN and shared her stories with our Tampa coverage partner WFLA and NBC News Channel, making them available to any NBC affiliate nationwide, with some of her stories running on NBC5 in Chicago. and on NBC4 in New York.
Additionally, Sommavilla interned at WENY in Horseheads, NY; WBNG-Action News in Johnson City, NY; News 12 Westchester in Yonkers, NY; and Inside Edition in Los Angeles, CA before moving to Sarasota. From cooks to crimes, she covered it all. Whatever the story, it’s her responsibility to present both sides, and she delights in doing so.

Sommavilla enjoys spending time with her family and friends and being active in her spare time. You can usually find her on the kickboxing mat, in a Pure Barre studio, or running with Dakota, my puppy and favorite adventure companion. Nicole is also a die-hard Lightning supporter! Two of her most memorable experiences in Florida were anchoring 12 non-stop hours of Hurricane Irma and winning a Telly Award for her documentary Living with Lyme. Sommavilla was diagnosed with Lyme disease in 2017 and also spends her free time raising awareness and advocating for more research and funding.
Additionally, Sommavilla is excited to be returning to CNY and serving a community she loves.
