Biography of Pedro Alexandre
Peter Alexander is an American journalist who has currently served as a White House correspondent for NBC News since December 2012. In addition, he was named co-anchor of Today in its Saturday editions. Reports from him appear on all NBC News platforms, including NBC Nightly News, Today, Meet the Press, NBC Dateline, MSNBC and NBCNews.com.
At the station, he shares roles alongside Kristen Welker, both as co-head of the White House correspondent network and as co-anchor of Weekend Today, the Saturday edition of Today. Since coming to NBC News in 2004, he has had many international stories. Some of these stories include Iraq’s historic election in 2005, the death of Osama bin Laden in Pakistan and the tsunami in Indonesia.
In addition, he presented reports from Afghanistan, the Galapagos Islands, the Gaza Strip, Israel, Laos and Mexico. His work also includes environmental reporting on the Northern Passage in the Arctic and reporting on the deeply personal story of his sister who has Usher Syndrome Type III. He covered several breaking news events, including the anchoring of live coverage of “Miracle on the Hudson” and the Virginia Tech shooting.

In 2010, Alexander reported on the international controversy surrounding WikiLeaks and its founder Julian Assange. In addition to his news responsibilities, he also served as a host for NBC Sports and covered the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the 2010 Winter Olympics.
From 2012 to March 2014, he served as a White House correspondent. While in this position, he covered the presidency of Barak Obama. As he is still based in Washington, he still reports frequently from the White House. On March 20, 2020, he attended a live White House briefing on the steps the federal and state governments were taking to respond to COVID-19.
Recently, he’s been filling the show for Craig Melvin, who recently left his role as co-host of the Saturday morning version of Today to join the Monday-Friday edition and continue his host duties on MSNBC Live With Craig Melvin. Alexander will continue his roles as a national correspondent and White House correspondent.
