Dallas Raines is an American meteorologist who currently serves as chief meteorologist at KABC-TV in Los Angeles and is a certified meteorologist by the American Meteorological Society.
After his education, he received his Bachelor of Science degree from Florida State University where he studied broadcast journalism and earth sciences with an emphasis on meteorology. He later taught climate classes in the geography department at California State University, Northridge.
He won awards in his career journey. Some of these awards include the Daily News People’s Choice Award for Best Meteorologist, Man of the Year by the American Cancer Society, Golden Mike Award for Best Weathercast, and Associated Press Award for Best Weather Segment.
After his career, he was the chief meteorologist for television stations WBRZ-TV in Baton Rouge and WDSU in New Orleans, Louisiana, before moving to CNN to run its national weather coverage. During this time, Raines also appeared as the weatherman for CNN’s TBS Evening News, on what was then the SuoerStation WTBS.
However, he left CNN to join KABC-TV in 1984 as a meteorologist and later became a weekend anchor. It was later moved to weekday afternoon news 4, 5, 6, and 11 pm. Furthermore, he is popular for his predictions such as the “Dallas dip”, the whirlpool, the fist pump and the golf swing.
