Ray Suarez biography
Ray Suarez is an American journalist who currently works as a broadcast journalist and is the current John J. McCloy Visiting Professor of American Studies at Amherst College. Most recently, he was the host of Inside Story on Al Jazeera America. It hosted this program until the network ceased operating in 2016.
After that, he joined PBS NewsHour in 1999 and was a senior correspondent for the evening news program on the PBS television network until 2013. In addition, he is the host of Public’s international news and analysis public radio show America Abroad. Radio International. Ray was also the host of the National Public Radio Talk of the Nation program from 1993 to 1999.
In his 30+ year career in the news business, he has also worked as a radio reporter in London and Rome and as a CNN correspondent in Los Angeles. He is currently one of Euronews’ North American correspondents. Born and raised in Brooklyn, he attended several public schools before graduating from high school at John Dewey High School in 1974.

After graduation, he worked as a freelance reporter in London and Rome. His coverage of the attempted assassination of Pope John Paul II led to him being hired by Radio CBS. After that, he was hired by ABC and later by CNN. Suarez became a regular correspondent for PBS NewsHour in 1999 and was a rotating anchor between 2009 and 2013.
In addition to his journalistic career, Suarez is also a certified author. He is the author of three books. The most recent is Latin Americans: The 500 Year Legacy That Shaped a Nation, published by Penguin/Celebra in 2013. He is also the author of The Old NeighborhooD: What We Lost in the Great Suburban Migration:1966-1999.
