Randall Pinkston Biography
Randall Pinkston is an American journalist who currently works as a correspondent and anchor for Al Jazeera America. Before joining Al Jazeera, he worked at CBS News. After a stint as a White House correspondent at CBS’s Washington Bureau, he became a general assignment reporter contributing to CBS broadcasts. He also contributed to the CBS Reports documentary Legacy of Shame with correspondent Dan Rather.
Born in Yazoo County, Mississippi, he graduated in 1973 from Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi. In addition, he earned a law degree from the University of Connecticut in 1980. After graduation, he began his career at WLBT-TV in Jackson, Mississippi, where he worked as an anchor and reported from 1971 to 1974. He later worked for WJXT -TV as urban affairs director, general reporter and producer. He also worked for WFSB-TV in Hartford, where he served as a reporter and anchor for various public relations shows.
From 1980 to 1990, he worked for WCBS-TV in New York. While there, he served as a reporter and correspondent for the station in New Jersey. Later, in 1990, he joined CBS News as its White House correspondent. He spent two years covering President George HW Bush. In 1994, he was transferred to the CBS New York office, where he reported for the CBS Evening News and other CBS News broadcasts.
On May 19, 2013, it was announced that he was leaving CBS after 33 years of service. He then joined Al Jazeera America as a freelance journalist in November 2000. However, Al Jazeera Media Network announced on January 14, 2016 that it would close Al Jazeera America’s cable TV and digital operations on April 30, 2016. .
