
Biography of Rick Stein
Christopher Richard Stein is a famous English chef, restaurateur, author and television presenter. He It is the head chef and co-owner of “Rick Stein at Bannisters” in Mollymook and Port Stephens, Australia. Stein has also written cookbooks and hosted television shows.
Richard was born in Churchill, Oxfordshire. He attended his education at Well Court on the outskirts of Tewkesbury. Thereafter he transferred to Wells House, the Court’s larger sister school, and lastly to Uppingham School. After that he did a hotel management internship at the Great Western Royal Hotel in Paddington. Shortly afterwards he worked there for six months before moving to Australia.
While in Australia, he worked as a laborer in a slaughterhouse and also as a clerk in a shipyard. He then decided to continue his studies and was admitted to New College, Oxford, where he majored in English. Shortly after graduating from college, he and his friend Johnny opened a nightclub in Padstow, where he served Vesta meals. However, they regularly got into fights with the police, which led to the closure of the store.
Afterwards, Stein and his wife Jill converted the place into a small harborside bistro called ‘The Seafood Restaurant’. For over 25 years, he has been running the Restaurante de Frutos do Mar, which has grown from a beachfront bistro to an internationally renowned, award-winning restaurant. Additionally, Rick made his first television appearance as a guest chef on Keith Floyd’s show Floyd on Fish in 1985. After that, he again appeared in the documentary television series Floyd on Food. He was subsequently seen on several award-winning television shows, including Fruits of the Sea, Rick Stein’s Seafood Lover’s Guide, and Rick Stein’s Food Heroes, among others.
In addition, Rick has received numerous awards and honors, including the Glenfiddich Trophy for his outstanding contribution to broadening the understanding and appreciation of great food and drink in Britain. He also won the AA Guide Chefs’ Chef of the Year Award in 1999-2000. In 2003, Stein was awarded the OBE in the Queen’s New Year’s Honors List for his services to Cornish Tourism. He opened his second restaurant at Bannisters in Salamander Bay, Port Stephens.
In addition, Stein is also the author of several cookbooks; many of them were companion books to a television series. In addition, he also wrote his autobiography, Under a Mackerel Sky: A Memoir released in 2013.
