Ritesh Agarwal is a young entrepreneur and founder and CEO of OYO Hotels & Homes. He is one of India’s billionaire entrepreneurs and owns the largest hotel chain, with monthly revenues of US$ 3.5 million and 1,500 employees. Ritesh made history in 2020 by becoming the world’s second-youngest billionaire at age 27.
Agarwal was born in Bissam Cuttack and brought up in Titilagarh. He completed primary school at Sacred Heart School before joining St. John Senior Secondary School on Bundi Road, Kota. He later enrolled in a college in Delhi in 2011 but dropped out after being selected for the Thiel Fellowship in 2013. While in college, he started a budget accommodation portal called Oravel Stays which was accepted in 2012.
Later, after joining the Thiel Fellowship program, Agarwal became the program’s winner and received a grant of $100,000 from the company. After that, he set up OYO Room Company. Ritesh is also the owner of the book titled “Indian Engineering Colleges” which was a huge hit after it was released. Early on, the company set a benchmark by generating revenue of $951 million under the leadership of Ritesh Agarwal. Currently, OYO employs more than 17,000 people worldwide, with around 8,000 based in India and South Asia. Furthermore, it has established 26 training centers for hospitality enthusiasts across India.
