Chris Mortensen Current Health Status: Any Updates on His Illness?: If you’re a fan of football, you’re likely familiar with Chris Mortensen, who is one of the most experienced and respected reporters and analysts in the industry.

But what happened to Chris Mortensen? Mortensen revealed in 2016 that he had been diagnosed with stage 4 throat cancer. Despite the setbacks and challenges he’s faced since then, Mortensen continues to be an inspiration to many people who are dealing with cancer or other life challenges.

Mortensen began his career as a sportswriter for the Torrance Daily Breeze in California. He then went on to become an NFL Insider for ESPN where he provided breaking news analysis and league insider information.

Mortensen has covered some of the NFL’s biggest stories including the Spygate scandal and the deflated football controversy involving Tom Brady.

What Happened To Chris Mortensen

Mortensen announced in January 2016 that he had been diagnosed with stage 4 throat cancer. He took a leave of absence from ESPN to focus on his treatment and fight the disease.

Mortensen underwent intensive chemotherapy and radiation at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston and his cancer was virtually undetectable by August 2016.

Mortensen’s cancer returned and metastasized to his left lung which was a heartbreaking turn of events. He underwent additional treatment and surgery to remove a portion of his lung and he experienced significant weight loss and other health issues as a result of the therapy’s side effects.

Mortensen never gave up hope Despite the difficulties and fought his cancer with courage and optimism. In 2017 he revealed that his doctors had warned him that his cancer battle could last the rest of his life. Since 2018 there has been no update on his health.

Professional Achievements of Chris Mortensen

Mortensen has made enormous contributions to sports journalism. He has received several journalism awards including the George Polk Award the Dick Schaap Award for Outstanding Journalism and the McCann Award from the Professional Football Writers of America.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame the National Football Foundation and the Walter Camp Football Foundation have also recognized him.

As of 2023, Chris Mortensen is continuing his work as an NFL reporter and analyst for ESPN. He has appeared on numerous shows and platforms including SportsCenter NFL Live ESPN.com and ESPN Radio.

Mortensen also reports on major sporting events such as the Super Bowl the NFL Draft and the Pro Football Hall of Fame induction ceremony.
