His father Roberto Sr. played as a pitcher in the Mexican league for twenty-two seasons.
His uncle, Antonio Osuna, also played as a pitcher in the MLB professional baseball for eleven seasons. And although Antonio spent most of his 11-year professional career with the Los Angeles Dodgers, he also played for several other MLB teams including the Washington Nationals, the Chicago White Sox, the San Diego Padres, and the New York Yankees.

Roberto Osuna Career
Roberto Osuna began his professional career in the Mexican league with Diablos Rojos del México in 2011, playing a total of thirteen games and scoring a 0-1 record, 5.49 ERA, twelve strikeouts, and 192/3 innings before moving to the Toronto Blue Jays for $1.5 million. He spent the next three seasons in the Toronto Blue Jays’ minor league organization before advancing to the major leagues in 2015.
He was invited to spring training for the first time as a non-recruiter, he had no expectations to be included in the major team list outside of camp, but things changed for him in camp and he found his name on the list after impressing the franchise management at spring training.
He made his MLB debut in April 2015 in a game against the New York Yankees, taking out Alex Rodriguez and getting Stephen Drew to drop out. Roberto Osuna was to become the youngest pitcher in the franchise’s history and the first player ever to play in the MLB, born in 1995. He also became the most reliable arm in Blue Jays’ bullpen, achieving a 1.38 ERA in ten appearances.
The following month (May 2015), he celebrated his first win with a 10-6 victory over the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. In that game, he threw 1 2/3 goalless innings and became the youngest pitcher (twenty years, one hundred days) to record a victory for the Blue Jays. During the American League Division Series 2015 he scored a 5-0 defeat in the fifth and final game of the American League, becoming the youngest pitcher in the history of the American League to score such a rescue in a post-season and the 2nd in the history of the MLB.
He ended his 2017 season with thirty-nine parries, a 3-4 record, 3.38 ERA and eighty-three strikeouts, and sixty-four innings. The pitcher was unable to reach a salary agreement with the Jays for the 2018 season, which led to a salary arbitration process. He lost the case against the Blue Jays, and in February 2018 he signed a $5.3 million contract with the team to play for a year. In the same year, he recorded his 100th save in his career and became the youngest pitcher in MLB history to score 100 saves.
In June, Roberto Osuna was suspended for seventy-five games for violating the league’s policy on domestic attacks. The following month he was transferred to the Houston Astros in exchange for David Paulino, Héctor Pérez, and Ken Giles. In August, the Astros reinstated him in their active roster.
