Roland Abante is a Filipino singer-songwriter who gained fame for auditioning on week 3 of the eighteenth season of America’s Got Talent, which began in June 2023. For his first audition, Roland was accompanied by a translator because he could only speak and understand just a little bit of English. However, he received a standing ovation and wowed the judges after singing his own version of the famous song When a Man Loves a Woman. Abante revealed to the judges before the audition that his biggest dream was to be on America’s Got Talent, despite working normally as a fisherman in the Philippines.

Abante was born and raised in the small town of Santander on the island of Cebu in the Philippines. He grew up in a very small poor neighborhood as the eldest in his family. Roland’s parents struggled to make a living. Therefore, he completed his high school education but never went to college. Abante started doing odd jobs in Cebu City. His city fights never broke him. So every night he sang at Kareoke’s for fun whenever he didn’t have food.

A few years later, he was helped by a close friend who offered him a job working as a fisherman. Roland also got another day job working at a motorcycle company transporting people and goods from place to place.
