Ronnie Lott is a former professional American football player who played cornerback and safety in the National Football League for 14 seasons during the 1980s and 1990s. During his career, Ronnie won 4 Super Bowls with the San Francisco 49ers.
He played college football for the University of Southern California and was honored as a consensus All-America. He was drafted first overall in the 1981 NFL Draft and played for the San Francisco 49ers, Los Angeles Raiders, New York Jets, and Kansas City Chiefs. The San Francisco 49ers selected Lott in the first round (8th overall) of the 1981 NFL Draft. The 6-foot-3, 205-pound standout’s talent was immediately recognized, and he was named the 49ers’ starting left cornerback at the start of training camp.
In his first season in 1981, he had seven interceptions, helped the 49ers win Super Bowl XVI, and became only the second rookie in NFL history to return three interceptions for touchdowns. His strong performance earned him a tie for second place in the Rookie of the Year voting with New York Giants linebacker Lawrence Taylor.

Lott helped the 49ers win eight division titles and four Super Bowls during his 10-year tenure with the team: XVI (1981 season), XIX (1984), XXIII (1988), and XXIV (1990). He is one of five players to have appeared in all four Super Bowl victories for the San Francisco 49ers in the 1980s. After his time with the city, Lott signed as a free agent with the Los Angeles Raiders in 1991 and the New York Jets in 1993.

Ronnie returned to the 49ers in 1995, but his ailments from the previous four seasons continued to bother him, and he declared his retirement before the start of the season. In his first year of eligibility, Lott was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and was also named to the NFL’s 75th Anniversary Team.
