Roop Raj is an American journalist who works as an anchor and reporter for Fox 2 News in Detroit, Michigan. He won an Emmy for his work in the Outstanding Continuing Coverage category. Additionally, for his breaking weather news coverage, he won a first place award from the Associated Press. While working in New Orleans, he covered Hurricane Katrina.
Raj began his career at age 14 in Troy, Michigan, where he developed and hosted his own television show. He worked at CBS and ABC stations in Lansing, Michigan during his first two years at Michigan State University.
Roop was later hired to host the news in Flint, Michigan, where he worked for four years as a news and weather anchor. He later went to work for NBC in New Orleans, where he stayed for seven years. He moved to Detroit in 2009, where an economic storm was brewing after 24 hurricanes, including Katrina.
During the 2020 election, Fox 2 News took the lead, providing more exclusives to its viewers than any other station in the city. Raj was ecstatic to have secured three one-on-one interviews with then-presidential candidate Joe Biden. He also landed three exclusive one-on-one interviews with former President Trump. Plus, his final interview landed him in the Rose Garden for a 15-minute face-to-face with Trump at the White House. During Election Day, he had access to candidate Kamala Harris in Detroit.
