Russell Haythorn biography
Russell Haythorn is an award-winning American journalist who has currently worked at Denver 7 (KMGH-TV) since November 2005 as a general assignment reporter. He was honored with an award from the National Associated Press for his coverage of Moore, Oklahoma’s deadly EF5 tornado in May 2013.
Russell went to Colorado State University graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Technical Journalism in 1998. Prior to that, he attended Eaton High School from 1990 to 1994. In addition, Haythorn worked as a reporter for WFMY-TV, Greensboro, Carolina. North from 2003 to 2005 before joining KMGH-TV, Denver 7.
Haythorn was also a reporter for KCBD-TV from 2000 to 2003 and for KGWN-TV from 1998 to 2000. Russell also worked for stations in Cheyenne, Wyoming, Lubbock, Texas and Greensboro. He has covered several important stories since joining the Denver 7 team, such as the September 2013 Colorado floods, Waldo Canyon Fire, and the Black Forest Fire.
