Shannon Sohn is an American television reporter who currently serves as a helicopter reporter for the 5pm and 6pm newscasts for WABC-TV Eyewitness News in New York City. On the station, Sohn became the first helicopter reporter to win a national Emmy award.
Sohn grew up in Old Bridge Township, New Jersey, and graduated from Ponte Velha Secondary School in 1992. She then joined Rutgers University where she majored in Journalism and Communication, along with a minor in Advertising.
In college, Shannon spent two years as an intern at WCTC News Radio in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Shortly before her graduation, she had the chance to work for WCTC as a weekend news anchor and fill a vacancy in the station’s air traffic reporter vacancy, which was being vacated by Dan Rice, who was moving to WABC-TV in New York. On WCTC-TV, Sohn won an Associated Press Reporting Award.
Additionally, in 2000, Shannon majored in broadcast meteorology through courses taken online at State of Mississippi University.
