Vassy Kapelos is a renowned Canadian political journalist, currently serving as the lead political correspondent for CTV News. Previously, she worked as the host of Power & Politics on CBC News from 2018 to 2022. Vassy also worked as the Ottawa bureau chief for Global News and host of the network’s Sunday morning political affairs program.

Kapelos began his broadcasting career on Swift Current and worked for the Global Television Network station in Saskatoon and Edmonton. She even worked as a political affairs reporter for the Edmonton station. This role made her best known for breaking the story about the large severance package paid to Prime Minister Alison Redford’s chief of staff in 2013.

Vassy was also part of the series’ reporting team on the ambulance industry in Alberta. The series drew on revealing interviews with paramedics and other sources, and an in-studio interview with Alberta Minister of Health Fred Horne, to reveal an under-resourced industry that was putting Alberta residents at risk.

The above series also prompted the provincial government to initiate a system-wide review and won the 2013 Edward R. Murrow Award for Best News Series in the international category.


Vassy then transferred to the Ottawa office in 2013 and became office boss in 2016 and host of The West Block in 2017 following Tom Clark’s retirement. Later in February 2018, Kapelos left Global to join CBC News Network as the new host of Power & Politics.

On November 8, 2022, CTV announced that Vassy would be joining the station as its main political correspondent and host of two political programs, Power Play and Question Period.

She later joined CTV News in 2022 to become the host of Power Play and Question Period. She also hosts the Vassy Kapelos Show on iHeartRadio.
