David Finfrock biography
David Finfrock is a well-known American meteorologist who currently works as a senior meteorologist for NBC5 in Dallas-Fort Worth, where he has predicted Texas weather for over 40 years.
Finfrock enrolled at Texas A&M University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in meteorology and did some graduate work while there. After working as a field researcher for the Juneau Icefield Research Program in Alaska, Finfrock joined NBC 5 as a meteorologist in 1975.
The Dallas Press Club presented Finfrock with the Katie Award for Best Weathercast in Texas. Finfrock also received the Viewers Choice Award for Best Meteorologist from the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. He was also recognized as an Emmy and Katie Award finalist for his work as a documentary host. In both 2006 and 2007,
Finfrock won an Emmy for “Tracking Texas Weather,” a weather special, and another for his work on NBC’s 65th Anniversary Special 5. In what has been more than 40 years of work on the air, he was also honored with a “Silver Circle” Emmy Award for Career Achievement.

David is a professional member of the American Meteorology Society and serves on the Advisory Board of the University of Texas Arlington Center for Great Southwest Studies, as well as the Audubon Society’s Dogwood Canyon Preserve Board at Cedar Hill. He is also a Habitat for Humanity volunteer and has been delivering meals on wheels for over 15 years.
Finfrock is a passionate nature conservationist and enjoys participating in walks and runs for various philanthropic organizations in his spare time. Camping, traveling, gardening, genealogy and old maps are some of David’s favorite pastimes. He is currently the editor of the Texas Map Society newsletter.
