Bill Plaschke is an American journalist who currently works as an author and sports columnist for the Los Angeles Times. He joined the Los Angeles Times in 1996. During his career as a sports writer, he made regular appearances on ESPN. He appears as a panelist on Around the Horn. Furthermore, he is a COVID-19 survivor.
As a child, he attended and graduated from Saint Albert the Great Primary School in Louisville. She later participated Ballard College. Bill spent his first year at Baylor University in Waco, Texas. He received a bachelor’s degree in mass communication from University of Southern Illinois Edwardsville in 1980. He was also the sports editor for the school newspaper, the Alestle.
Prior to joining the Los Angeles Times, Bill worked as a reporter in Fort Lauderdale and Seattle. After joining the Times, Bill primarily covered the Los Angeles Dodgers and eventually became a columnist in 1996. He is currently a member of the Baseball Writers Association of America and a regular panelist on ESPN’s sports-themed debate show Around the Horn.

This was for a column that accused American gymnast Gabby Douglas of lacking patriotism for not smiling and placing her hand over her heart during the performance of the US National Anthem.
Gabby later apologized at a press conference, although some felt the criticism was unfair. In the summer of 2020, Plaschke wrote about his experience with COVID-19.
