Bryan Norcross biography
Bryan Norcross is a renowned television meteorologist and hurricane expert in the United States, currently working for WPLG-TV Channel 10 in Miami, Florida, an ABC affiliate since February 26, 2018, he has also served as a hurricane expert on The Weather Channel in Atlanta.
Prior to joining WPLG-TV, Norcross was chief meteorologist at WTVJ-TV (the television station owned and operated by NBC in Miami, Florida), where he became best known for his participation in coverage of Hurricane Andrew in 1992. Norcross became the Director of Weather for WFOR-TV, the television station owned and operated by CBS in Miami, as well as a hurricane analyst for CBS News in New York.
From 1996 to 2007, Bryan became a frequent presence on CBS’s national news during hurricane season. However, in June 2008, Bryan chose not to renew his contract with WFOR to give more time to America’s Emergency Network, a private company he formed with Max Mayfield, former director of the National Hurricane Center. Bryan Norcross’s Career
Norcross began his broadcasting career as a disc jockey at WTAI, an AM station in Melbourne, Florida, in 1968 and 1969. During his college days in Tallahassee, Florida, he performed on WTAL-AM and WFSU-FM.
Furthermore, he started in television as an engineer at WFSU-TV in Tallahassee, Florida while in college. Upon graduation in 1972, he moved to WXIA-TV (then WQXI-TV) in Atlanta, where he worked as a maintenance engineer/technical director. In 1974, Norcross was promoted to interim Production Manager. Likewise, in 1975, he was transferred to KUSA-TV (then KBTV) in Denver as the station’s nightly news director. Also, in 1976, Norcross was assigned to produce the 10 pm news, which became the highest-rated news program on the market.
In 1977, Norcross was promoted and transferred to WLKY-TV in Louisville as News Director. During a hunting trip to Louisville in January 1978, a massive snowstorm hit the city. Norcross was the only news presenter able to make it to the station and aired with the help of two night engineers, he provided the city with the only TV coverage of the storm. In 1979, Bryan returned to Florida State University for a master’s degree.

After receiving his master’s degree in 1980, he became CNN’s first weekend weatherman after signing that same year. Norcross moved to KGO-TV in San Francisco later that year to cover weekend weather and weekday science reports.
Additionally, in 1981, Bryan returned to Atlanta as an executive producer of documentaries and magazines at WTBS, handling more of Ted Turner’s favorite projects. At the same time, he was the weekend weatherman on WXIA-TV. In 1983, he moved to Miami as a weekend weatherman for ABC affiliate WPLG. Likewise, in 1984, Norcross moved to the 5:30 news where he created a concept called Neighborhood Weather, where the weather was done as part of a daily live feature.
Also, in 1990, Norcross moved to WTVJ, the NBC-owned station, as chief meteorologist, where he became known for his coverage of Hurricane Andrew. He joined WFOR as Director of Meteorology in 1996. In 2006, he resigned from daily weather forecasting responsibilities to focus on hurricane and emergency communication issues.
Norcross currently serves as a hurricane expert on The Weather Channel since 2010.
