Chris Tom’s biography
Chris Tomer is an American meteorologist who currently works as a spot meteorologist for Colorado’s Own Channel 2 and FOX31 Denver. He earned a BA in Meteorology from the University of Valparaíso and graduated with honors where he also played basketball. Chris is a fully certified meteorologist, having earned both the CBM and NWA seals of approval. In addition, he has expert knowledge of Mountain Meteorology.
In addition, his curriculum includes more than 100 visits to Front Range schools, lectures at business lunches, presentations targeting private companies, private sector fire weather forecasting, private sector aviation forecasting, master of ceremonies at charity events, book signings, motivational speeches, performance tips for TV and media presentations and educational workshops at Front Range REI stores.
In 2011, Tomer co-authored Sleeping on the Summits: Colorado Fourteener High Bivys. Additionally, Sleep at the Summits was a Colorado bestseller during the summer of 2012 and won two major book awards in 2013, including the Colorado Book Award and the IPPY Award. He also published a peer-reviewed meteorology article in the National Weather Association’s Journal of Operational Meteorology.
When not working, he loves mountain climbing, trail running and snow skiing. After that, he completed climbing on all 58 of the Colorado 14ers in 2009, including the 14er’s four major crossings. Many of his adventures are aired on Channel 2 under the name “Tomer’s Trails”. Furthermore, he won an Emmy for his 2015 Tomer’s Trails stories.
