Jason Colthorp is an American journalist from Michigan. He currently serves as an anchor and reporter for WDIV News 4 based in Detroit. Prior to working at WDIV News, Jason spent a few years working as a correspondent for WILX News in Onondaga, Michigan. He further gained experience while working as an editor and multimedia journalist for several stations in Detroit and its neighboring states.
Colthrop is a Lansing Michigan native who grew up in a middle-class Native American family. He grew up very smart and intelligent, always focused on his studies. Jason’s favorite subjects in school were math and science. He finished high school from Manatee High School. Jason then graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Communications.
Colthrop began his career as a broadcast journalist working as an intern for several local stations in Michigan. He then joined WILX News as a writing assistant. It was here that Jason gained experience as an editor and behind-the-scenes production assistant.
Eventually, he managed to make his TV debut as a reporter after being promoted to sports reporter by WILX management. He hosted the WILX sports reports from early 2001. Jason’s most famous report on the station was when he hosted live sports updates from a volunteer marathon he had just run. Jason left WLX News and joined WDIV News in 2015.
