Jeff Baskin biography
Jeff Baskin is an American journalist who currently serves as chief meteorologist for KLRT FOX 16 News. He joined the FOX16 team in January 2009. He has over 12 years of experience forecasting all types of extreme weather, including tornadoes, hurricanes, snow and ice storms.
Prior to joining FOX 13, Baskin worked as a meteorologist at WFOR in Miami. While there, he helped Florida residents weather a very active hurricane season in 2008. Prior to that, Jeff served as KOIN’s chief meteorologist in rainy Portland, Oregon, as well as a weekend meteorologist at WVUE in New Orleans. .
Also, while in New Orleans, Baskin gained more experience with extreme weather, forecasting for 6 years on the Gulf Coast, including the destructive 2004 and 2005 hurricane seasons.
Jee was working in New Orleans when Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast, destroying the station where he worked and flooding his neighborhood with water. Likewise, while in New Orleans, Baskin was awarded twice for “Best weather forecast in New Orleans” by the New Orleans Press Club.
Jeff is originally from Upstate New York and he graduate from Cornell University in Ithaca, NY with a degree in meteorology. His career began in Utica, New York, as a meteorologist and general reporter. In an area averaging 90 inches of snow a year, Baskin predicted more than his fair share of massive snow and ice storms.
Also, Jeff enters the community to educate people about the weather. He has given many school lectures and emergency preparedness seminars. Baskin has also been involved in fundraising for the March of Dimes. During his free time, Jeff likes to do anything outside of the sun.
