Biography of John Gregory
John Gregory is an American journalist who currently works as a general assignment reporter and weekend morning co-anchor for ABC7 Eyewitness News, having joined the station in 2000. Originally from New York, his family moved to San Diego when he was a teenager. He then graduated from San Diego State University with a degree in political science.
He got his first job at KYMA in Yuma, Arizona, where he learned to anchor, produce, film, and edit his own stories. He later moved to KTNV in Las Vegas, Nevada, as a weekend anchor and reporter. He then returned to San Diego for seven years as a reporter at KNSD before joining ABC7.
Throughout his career, he has covered many stories, most of which have made headlines. He covered the 2000 Democratic National Convention for ABC7 Eyewitness News. During the controversial election that followed, he reported live from Washington, D.C., as the Supreme Court heard the case generated by the election results.
After the September 11 terrorist attacks, he joined California National Guard troops as they traveled to the Middle East on a mission to protect U.S. military installations. Additionally, he was awarded an Emmy in 1995 for his coverage of the Tank Rampage in San Diego and in 1996 for the Harmony Grove wildfires in San Diego.
