Mark Baden is a veteran, award-winning journalist who serves as the chief meteorologist for WISN-TV in Milwaukee. He began working with the station in 1997. Baden also has the distinction of being the station’s longest-serving employee.
In terms of his education, Baden enrolled in University of Western Illinois in 1988 and earned a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology in 1992. Mark worked as chief meteorologist at WOI-TV in Des Moines for two years and ten months before moving to Milwaukee.
Mark also organizes several fundraising events for Children’s Hospital, including the Sugarplum Luncheon and the Evening of Elegance. Likewise, since 2005, he has organized the golf tour with his sporting director, Dan Needles. Baden also served as honorary captain of the Denis Sullivan, a schooner moored in Milwaukee, for Discovery World.
Mark has won numerous meteorological honors throughout his career as a journalist, including a local and regional Emmy for coverage of floods in 2008. In 2009, he also received the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association’s Best Meteorology award.
Additionally, Milwaukee Magazine ranked The WeatherWatch, 12 crew members, as the most accurate local meteorologist. Baden also obtained the American Meteorological Society’s Mark of Approval as well as the Certified Broadcast Meteorology seal. In addition, Baden teaches a meteorology course at Concordia University in the spring.
