Steve Jerve is an experienced American meteorologist, weather forecaster, news anchor and reporter. He currently works at WFLA News Channel 8, where he serves as Chief Meteorologist. Jerve is familiar to many faces as he provides weather updates on his workdays on News Channel 8 news at 5pm, 5:30pm, 6pm and 11pm.
Steve began his broadcasting career at KAAL-TV in Austin, Minnesota, working as a weather announcer, reporter, weekend news anchor and photographer. Soon after, he transitioned to being a news editor and producer. This position later led to a new job at WJTV in Jackson, Mississippi, where he became the main weather anchor.
As part of his career growth, Steve moved to WFTV in Orlando, taking on the role of 5pm weather anchor. In this position, he was able to cover Hurricane Andrew in 1992, an experience she can recall to this day. Additionally, he served on the KDNL in St. Louis as chief meteorologist.
In 1996, Jerve won an Emmy Award for weather forecasting in the Central America region. In addition, he is a full member of the American Meteorological Society and has also received the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) designation.
Jerve participated in Jackson state University where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Meteorology. He also studied at the University of Minnesota, Morris, and Mississippi State University. Furthermore, Jerve holds a BA in Broadcast Meteorology.
