The charges were brought by the Kings County District Attorney’s Office but were later dropped after Mendes failed to challenge a public disturbance charge and was ordered to pay a fine, which he did.
Another controversy arose when the UFC announced that Chad Mendes had been informed by the USADA of a possible doping violation on June 10, 2016. He tested positive for a banned substance called GHRP-6, which is believed to be a growth hormone peptide. According to Chad, the substance containing GHRP-6 was a cream he used to treat plaque psoriasis, a skin disease he had been battling for years.
This allegation led to his suspension by the USADA for two years, which meant that Mendes was not allowed to compete until June 10, 2018. He responded by accepting the ban and saying it was his fault because he had not studied well enough or had not properly researched the lubricant before applying it.
