David Yeomans biography
David Yeomans is a two-time award-winning meteorologist, currently serving as a weekday morning weather forecaster for KXAN-TV in Austin, Texas. By fourth grade, David was already checking piles of meteorology books from the public library. He gathered as much knowledge as he could. A year later, he became a registered storm watcher, keeping weather records for the Office of the National Weather Service.
He then enrolled in meteorology at the University of Miami. During his summer after his freshman year in Miami, he moved to Austin to work as an intern in the KXAn weather department. Furthermore, he has held internships at CBS4 Miami and Spectrum News in Austin.
After Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans in 2005, Yeomans helped rebuild the Ninth Ward neighborhood with Habitat for Humanity. In this he worked as a carpenter’s helper.
In 2010, he returned to the University of Miami for graduate studies in meteorology. At this time, he was involved in campus broadcast programs. Notably, David broadcast daily weather forecasts on WVUM radio, the number 1 college radio station then ranked by the MTV-U Woodie Awards. In another role, he served as lead weather anchor for the campus TV station’s award-winning half-hour news program Newsvision.

For his master’s thesis, David studied hurricane formation and was a guest scientist aboard the NOAA Hurrican Hunter flight. For three years, he was invited to present his research at the annual conventions of the American Meteorological Society, namely in 2012, 2013 and 2016.
Yeomans holds the American Meteorological Society’s Certified Broadcast Meteorologist seal. Furthermore, he received a Lone Star Emmy Award for First Warning Weather University series in 2019. Previously, he won another Lone Star Emmy Award in 2015 for First Warning Weather Team’s Summer Weather Outlook.
In addition to his accolades, David was awarded the First Place Weathercast in 2016 by the Texas Associated Press Broadcasters. Another significant award for him was the 2018 On-Air Television Personality of the Year by the Alliance for Women in Media.
In his hometown of Austin, David also serves on the Advisory Board of the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center. During his free time, he enjoys surfing Lake Austin and mountain biking in the green belt.
