Luke Dorris Biography
Luke Dorris is an American meteorologist who currently serves as the chief meteorologist for WPLG, the ABC affiliate in Miami. However, in 2017, it joined Local Weather Authority 10 just in time for Hurricane Irma. He started at Channel 8 Eyewitness News as a morning and midday weather forecaster before becoming chief weatherman for Channel 8 KLKN-TV.

Dorris entered school to contemplate vehicle production and found low-maintenance jobs at the larger homestead delivery center, where he worked on a forklift to stack beer trucks during classes. Luke believed he had been hit by a storm, but later learned it was a “microburst” or a severe twist in a straight line at over 140 km/h. Luke, both fascinated and fearful, went to the University of Oklahoma, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Meteorological Science and followed a few storms as long as he could.
He was also fortunate to study with Gary England, Michael Armstrong and the KWTV environment group in Oklahoma City. (If you’ve seen the opening scene of “Twister,” watch Gary on TV in the old farmhouse at the time. He’s an exceptional guy, says Luke.)
