Makayla Lucero is an American meteorologist who currently works as a broadcast meteorologist at WUSA9 since joining the station in January 2022. Prior to joining the current station, she worked as a meteorologist at First Coast News from January 2021 to February 2022.
Lucero recently graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with a BA in Meteorology. While in college, she had a number of interesting research opportunities. She went to Rocky Mountain National Park and investigated the likelihood of avalanche on the slopes of the mountains. Additionally, she travels to Ecuador in South America to research flood management in a third world country.
A passionate meteorologist, some of her internships include interning at KKTV 11 News from May 2018 to August 2018. She also interned at WeatherNation Denver, Colorado. Her first full-time job came in January 2019 when she joined KLTV in Tyler, Texas as a broadcast journalist. After serving here for 2 years and 1 month, she left the station for a position at First Coast News in Jacksonville, Florida, United States.
She currently works as a full-time broadcast meteorologist at WUSA-TV in Washington since joining the network in January 2022. Outside of the weather, she enjoys running, swimming and playing the guitar.
