Ryan Hanrahan Biography
Ryan Hanrahan is an American meteorologist who currently works as a first alert meteorologist for NBC Connecticut and can be seen weekdays on the 4, 5, 6, and 11 pm newscasts. Growing up along the coast in Guilford, his interest in weather was sparked by the 1989 Hamden tornado, among other phenomena.
Hanrahan returned to Connecticut in 2005 after working as a meteorologist for WNYT, the NBC affiliate in Albany. He graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in meteorology. Additionally, he is studying atmospheric science in graduate school at the State University of New York at Albany.
During his return to NBC Connecticut, he covered many of the state’s biggest storms, including Tropical Storm Irene, Hurricane Sandy, the October snowstorm, and the May 2018 Connecticut tornado outbreak.
He currently resides in West Hartford and, in addition to forecasting the weather, enjoys spending his free time with his Golden Retriever, Doppler, relaxing on the beach or skiing the slopes. Hanrahan also volunteers with Special Olympics Connecticut and visits schools throughout the state.
