Shannon O’Donnell Biography
Shannon O’Donnell is an American meteorologist and news anchor who has currently served as chief meteorologist at KOMO 4 News since 2009. O’Donnell covers the weather for western Washington on weeknight shows for KOMO4 News & KOMO Newsradio.
Shannon was born and raised in Redmond, Washington, and attended Redmond High School, where she was a public speaker. After graduating from high school, O’Donnell attended the University of Washington to study meteorology and majored in atmospheric science. She also spent years at NOAA as a marine biologist.
O’Donnell began working for KOMO in Seattle in 1994, where she was mentored by Chief Meteorologist Steve Pool. After two years, Shannon joined KING in Seattle as a weekend morning weather forecaster, as well as his concurrent roles for Northwest Cable News. In 1997, Shannon received the AMS Seal of Approval, a position she held until 2000.

In 2001, Shannon joined KNTV, the NBC affiliate for the San Francisco Bay Area. She also won an Emmy Award as a meteorologist in 2004 and was named Best Weather TV Anchor in 2005 and 2006. She has also reported on the weather for Early Today and also worked as a weather understudy for MSNBC from 2003 to 2006.
O’Donnell announced that she was leaving KNTV to join her husband, who had already returned to his hometown of Seattle to attend graduate school. Shannon returned to KING/NWCN as a 10:00 p.m. weeknight anchor as well as meteorologist in December 2007.
In February 2009, Shannon was fired from KING 5 after major cuts at that station, including her position at sister station KONG 6/16. She then returned to KOMO 4 as a freelance weekend weather anchor. In August 2009, Shannon officially took on the role of weekend weather anchor on KOMO 4. She currently serves as chief meteorologist on KOMO 4.
