Steve Weagle is a CBM-certified Canadian-American broadcast meteorologist known for working as the Chief Meteorologist for WPTV NewsChannel 5 based in West Palm, Beach Florida. He joined the station in 1998 after leaving his long career as the lead weather forecaster for CTV News in Ottawa, Canada and The Weather Service. Therefore, Steve has worked at WPTV for almost 24 years. Its most memorable and famous news stories include coverage of the 2003 tornado that ripped through South Florida, 2004 Hurricane Frances, and delivering the latest weather reports every weekday and weekend night.
Weagle is a native Canadian who was born and raised in the small town of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Therefore, he moved to the US in 1998 and settled there permanently. Growing up, Steve was described as a very smart kid who was always curious about the weather and climate changes happening around him. Her favorite subject during middle and high school was math and science. Therefore, he thought he would become an astronomer, but he got excited about the weather and pursued it in college. Steve managed to graduate with a science degree from UNB in mathematics and physics and received his degree in meteorology from Dalhousie University. Weagle started his career working as an intern for the Weather Service. It provided multiple updates and tracked different hurricanes across Canada and North America for nearly two years. From there he joined CTV News and began to build a reputation for himself as a very competent broadcast meteorologist. He covered different winter storms that ravaged Canada and its surroundings during the early 1990s and different tornadoes that ravaged Ottawa and other cities. Reports from him have earned him the CBM Seal which is considered the highest certification seal that is awarded to the best meteorologist on Television. In 1998, Steve left Canada and moved to Florida to work as a weekend weather anchor.
Ultimately, Steve’s high qualifications and hard work earned him his current status as WPTV’s Chief Meteorologist. He became famous for his epic news coverage of Hurricane Frances in 2004 and reporting on the tornado that hit southern Florida and its surrounding states. As of 2023, Steve still plays his role as the chief meteorologist for WPTV NewsChannel 6. During his spare time, Weagle holds his own self-titled event Ride For the Red Cross to meet and help all people in the Florida community.
