Carol Kirkwood is a Scottish weather presenter, who currently works at the BBC Breakfast and Met office. Previously, Carol worked at BBC Radio and the BBC Secretariat Booking in London. Born and raised in Morar, Inverness-shire, Scotland.
Kirkwood attended Lochaber High School in Fort William, Kirkwood. She later joined Napier College and Technology in Edinburgh, where she received a Bachelor of Commerce degree. Shortly after graduating, she joined the BBC secretarial booking in London. She later moved to BBC Radio Scotland and later BBC Radio 2 and BBC Radio 4. After that she left the BBC and started working as an associate director in recruitment and training consultant for a management at a consulting firm in Cheshire.
In 1992, she and Sacha Baron Cohen spent time on a defunct cable TV channel, Windsor TV, later called Wire TV. The following year, Carol returned to the BBC as a freelance presenter in the Elstree Studios training development, where she anchored a show called Talking Issues for HTV West. After three years working at the BBC, Kirkwood was later promoted to work on The Weather Channel’s UK operation until it closed.
Additionally, Carol was trained at the Met Office as a broadcast meteorologist. She joined the BBC as a meteorologist and has since appeared on all of the BBC’s television and radio weather programmes, including BBC News at Six and BBC World News. Kirkwood is currently working as the lead weather presenter on BBC Breakfast. She is also a regular contributor and reporter for The One Show.
In 2011 Kirkwood co-hosted the BBC One series The Great British Weather. She also presented the weather forecast on BBC Radio 2’s The Chris Evans Breakfast Show. In 2015, she participated in the 13th series of BBC One’s Strictly Come Dancing, finishing in 10th place. In addition, Carol has also appeared as a guest on CBBC’s Hacker Time and BBC One panel Would I Lie to You? Recently, Kirkwood had a cameo in Hollyoaks. In addition, she is an actress, known for Hollyoaks (1995), Breakfast (2000) and Wimbledon (1937).
